Drivers come to a sticky end
DRIVERS were brought to a standstill this morning after gates leading to Emery Gate car park were superglued shut.
Pranksters had poured glue into the padlocks on the gated entrance in Monkton Park and North Wiltshire District Council workmen could not cut through the padlocks with bolt croppers.
They then had to use electric machinery to cut the locks off and open the gate.
The disruption caused a number of rush hour motorists to reverse out of the car park entrance after realising they could not get into the car park.
Motorist Lucy Jenkins said: "It is ridiculous - these kids obviously think this is hilarious but it has made me late for work.
"I cannot understand the mentality of this kinds of people."
A spokesman for North Wiltshire District Council said: "We received a number of calls to say that entry could not be gained to the lower level of the Emery Gate park.
"On investigation it was found that the padlocks had been superglued and were unable to be released.
"The high security padlocks proved resistant to bolt-croppers and so more heavy duty equipment was needed to remove them.
"Access from Emery Lane was unaffected."
